Congratulations to our 2010 Club Oratorical Contest Winners, 5th Graders Taylar Gardener and Shamar Moore of High Point Elementary School.
Presenting speeches on the topic "Cyber Communications: Progress of Problem?" Taylar and Shamar gave outstanding speeches that would revel any public speaker!
Taylar and Shamar will advance to the next level of competition, the Zone Level, then optimistically onto the Region and District levels.

AKUJI HANATANI, Consul General of Japan to the SE United States. Mr. Hanatani told us that this was the 150th anniversary of the first Japanese diplomat mission to the U.S. In 1860 on the eve of the Civil War the Japanese sent a diplomat who travelled from Hawaii to San Francisco, Panama, Washington and New York to exchange treaties between the U.S. and Japan. Japan is about the size of California, but much of the country is mountainous and few people live in those locations. The population of Japan is about 127 million! Japan’s largest import is food. He said that many Japanese cars are made in the U.S. In Georgia Japan is the #1 investor. Japan’s unemployment is 5% which is the highest it has ever been, and their deficit is 180% of GDP! He said that 22% of the Japanese population is 65 years old or older. There are 40,000 people 100+ years old and over a million people over 90!
